Date Lesson Questions

II TIMOTHY

July 20 2 Timothy 1:1-11
  1. Would you like to have a son like Timothy? Why?
  2. Read these 11 verses carefully, then decide what you think Paul was trying to accomplish with these verses?
July 27 2 Timothy 1:12-18
  1. Why do you suppose Paul spoke so much about shame and suffering to Timothy?
  2. What, in your opinion, are the implications of Paul's use of the word "pattern" in 1:3? Do we really have a pattern to follow? If we don't have one, then what do we have to guide us?
August 3 2 Timothy 2:1-13
  1. What do you think are the implications of 2 Timothy 2:2 for us today? Do we do this? Does this even apply to us? A better question yet is, "Do you do this?"
  2. Do the analogies of a farmer, an athlete and a soldier describe how you live the Christian life? What do you suspect is Paul's point he is trying to drive home?
August 10 2 Timothy 2:14-19
  1. Do the instructions Paul gives in this lesson still apply to preachers today? How?
  2. What do you think is the "solid foundation" or the "firm foundation" of 2:19?
August 17 2 Timothy 2:20-26
  1. According to Paul's definition, what kind of a "vessel" are you?
  2. How far can we push Paul's instruction that the Lord's servant must not "quarrel" / "strive"? Does it mean we must not take issue with anybody about anything?
August 24 2 Timothy 3:1-9
  1. Are we still in the "last days"?
  2. Are the people Paul describes Christians or non-Christians? (What insight does "having a form of godliness" give us?)
August 31 2 Timothy 3:10-17
  1. Are Paul's words still correct when he says, "all who live godly will suffer persecution?"(3:12) Have you had any persecution lately? What was it?
  2. How can Scripture completely furnish us for every good when there are so many things in our current society that it doesn't talk about? (Abortion, loving homosexual relationships, gambling, pornography, same sex civil marriages, etc.)
September 7 2 Timothy 4:1-8
  1. What do you suspect is Paul's reason for this last charge to Timothy?
  2. How much "rebuke" do you think modern audiences will put up with from the modern preacher?
  3. Why do you suppose Paul addressed verses 7 & 8 to Timothy as his last words? What purpose did they serve?
September 14 2 Timothy 4:9-22
  1. Why do you think the Holy Spirit saw fit to preserve Paul's personal messages in this epistle
  2. In fact, let's enlarge the question and ask, "Why did God use letters to reveal His will? Why not formal documents?"

TITUS

September 21 Titus 1:1-9
  1. Why was Titus an important character in the history of the early church? (Note Galatians 2)
  2. Do you think the example of Titus appointing elders (1:5) suggests only preachers should appoint elders today?
  3. Should there be only one set of elders per city?
  4. Why do you think Paul calls the men to be appointed both "elders" and "bishops"(overseers)?
September 28 Titus 1:10-16
  1. Titus quoted secular writers. Is it permissible for preachers today to quote secular sources to make their point, or should they stick to Biblical quotations only?
  2. Are all things really pure to the pure? (1:15)
  3. Paul says "stop the mouths" of false teachers (1:11) How should we do this? Don't let them speak?
October 5 Titus 2:1-8
  1. What insight do we get into what each age group is to do?
  2. How are you doing in YOUR age group? Are you doing what you're supposed to be doing? Look carefully at the instructions he gives to your age group.
October 12 Titus 2:9-15
  1. If you were a Christian slave today, could you happily obey Paul's instructions? Are you sure? How?
  2. If we are saved by the "grace of God" (meaning it's a gift for which I don't have do anything), then why does Paul say that grace "teaches" us to do certain things?(2:11,12)
October 19 Titus 3:1-7
  1. What would suspect Paul means when he says, "Be ready unto every good work?"(3:1) Can we really do that? How?
  2. Is it really possible to "speak evil of no one"? (3:2)
  3. What do you think the "washing of regeneration" and the "renewing of the Holy Spirit" is? Paul says that's how we were saved.
October 26 Titus 3:8-15
  1. Why would Paul feel called upon to urge Titus to avoid the things mentioned in 3:9? Are Paul's reasons doctrinal or practical?
  2. What do you think Paul means by a "divisive man"?
  3. How and when should we "reject" such a man?
