Supporting Our Troops...With VBS? Thu, Sep 2nd

vbs_troops

Last month, children filled Waterview hallways for VBS. They sang songs, did crafts, and had a great time. But something else happened that week that affected people a world away.

Members (children and adults) contributed some rather ordinary things to send to the troops serving our country in tough places, like Afghanistan. They collected 48 boxes of necessities that were sent to three servicemen and their units.

This past week, we received the following email from 1LT Kenneth Coleman of the 864th Engineer Battalion in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Hello!

I wish to thank you all for the wonderful gift boxes you sent our way. It is missions like this one that keep us going. My soldiers greatly enjoyed the goodies and consumables that you all sent over here. The "hand blankets" were a big hit and the soldiers were walking around for about the next hour saying "for the kids!" they were all in agreement and happy to take a picture to give you some faces that you have helped. The church here is not overly strong but we always have a Sunday service and we average about 16-32 depending on the units missions. Please keep us in your prayers and continue to support our troops the way you do.

God Bless 1LT Kenneth Coleman (Maintenance Platoon Ldr) FSC, 864th Engineer Battalion Kandahar Air Field

Just so you will know, someone besides our children benefit from VBS!

New Classes Begin This Week Thu, Sep 2nd

This Wednesday we return to our regular adult class schedule with two new classes.

  • Lawrece Smith will teach a class on Christian Ethics in the chapel.
  • In S101 a new kind of class will be held, along the lines of the class for young mothers. The class is for young men guided by Jim Alexander and Jim Stigers. It will deal with the various areas of a young man's life to make them a more effective Christian, husband, and father.

A brochure with complete listings is available in the foyer.

Quarter Collection Nets Over $4000 Thu, Sep 2nd

Texas_quarter,_reverse_side,_2004Last week's basket for the quarter collection was heavy! When all was counted (checks, bills, and change) $4,285.02 was given to the Breakfast Program for Children in Nicaragua. The work progresses and even expands because of the gifts given on these Sundays.

Singing and Ice Cream Closes Out Summer Wed, Sep 1st

ice-cream1Wednesday night closes out our summer activities at Waterview and summer is going out with a bang. This week, we will have a singing in the auditorium followed by an ice cream supper in the south wing. There will be no classes or Footprints that evening so bring the whole family to the auditorium. Be sure to bring your favorite ice cream or any other treats and enjoy the fellowship.

Quarter Collection Sun, Aug 29th

Texas_quarter,_reverse_side,_2004On August 29, we will let our children bring their quarters to the front of the auditorium for the Breakfast program in Nicaragua. This year Waterview has been able to expand its work among the children of Managua and the quarters provide the bedrock for that work.

Angela Withrow Leaves For Italy Sat, Aug 28th

Angela Withrow, the daughter of James and Sheilia Withrow, will leave this week for Florence, Italy. She has signed up for a two-year commitment through the Avanti Italia mission program. While in Italy, she will work with local churches through the Avanti program. Several Waterview members are contributing toward her support and Waterview has agreed to serve as her sponsoring congregation for her work. This morning, we wish her Godspeed in her work and pray for her safety as she leaves.

Mission Needs Thu, Aug 19th

The following items are needed to aid our mission work in Nicaragua:

  • Used suitcases - When supplies are taken to Nicaragua, it is more convenient to be able to leave the suitcases.
  • 35 mm film cans for our quarter collections
If you can help with either of the above, please see Grace McIntyre.

Trailblazers Needed Thu, Aug 19th

Our visitation program is back in action. If you would like to be a part of this important ministry, please contact Barbara Jackson in the church office.
