Strange but True Trivia
- Chocolate can kill dogs! It affects the dog’s heart and
nervous system, and just a few ounces is enough to kill a
small size dog. (Aren’t you glad it doesn’t do that to
humans?)
- Leonardo da Vinci could write with one hand and draw with
the other at the same time.
- There are no clocks in Las Vegas gambling casinos.
- Bruce Lee was so fast with his martial arts moves that they
had to slow the film down so you could see his moves.
- Mosquito repellents don’t repel. Instead the spray blocks
the mosquito’s sensors so he doesn’t know you’re there.
- To escape the grip of a crocodile’s jaws, stick your
fingers into his eyeballs, and he will let you go instantly.
(I’m not planning on checking that one out!)
- The average person’s left hand does 56% of the typing.
- It is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open. (Try it
sometime.)
- A cockroach can live for 10 days without its head.
- Blue is the favorite color of 80% of Americans.
- When you shake your head “no” in Sri Lanka, you are
saying “yes” to them.
- The average 4 year old child asks over 400 questions a day.
(Low estimate)
- What part of the body remains the same size from birth
onward? (Your eyes)
- Ten days without sleep can kill you.
- Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying.
- “Colgate” decided not to use their brand name in Spanish
speaking countries, because that word translates into the
command of “go hang yourself.”
- China has more English speakers than the United States.
- Right handed people live on the average nine years longer
than left handed people.
- The name of all the continents ends with the same letter
they start with. (Test it)
- Coca-Cola was originally green in color.
- All polar bears are left handed.
- The toughest tongue twister in the English language is,
“Sixth sick sheik’s sixth sheep’s sick.” (See if you
can do it)
- What is the only food that does not spoil? - Honey.
- People say “bless you” when you sneeze because your
heart stops for a millisecond.
- The statue of a person on a horse?
- If the horse has both front legs in the air, the person
died in battle.
- If the horse has one front leg in the air, the rider
died from wounds in battle.
- If the horse has all four legs on the group, the rider
died of natural causes.
Now, do you feel smarter? As intriguing as these things are,
they aren’t very important to us.
It’s the same with some people who know lots of trivia about
the Bible. It’s fun to know how many men wrote the Bible, the
middle verse of the entire Bible, and the shortest verse in the
Bible.
Much more important, however, is understanding what the Bible
commands you to do and then doing it. James said, “Be ye doers
of the word, and not hearers only.” (James 1:22)

Harvest Time Happiness!
Planting and cultivating are hard work, but harvest is a time
of joy for the farmer. It is only during harvest that the farmer
reaps the reward for his labor.
And so it is in spiritual things. Lately, we have had an
abundant harvest of souls. Let me sketch the last two weeks for
you. The summary is 5
baptisms and 5 new Bible studies:
- It started off with CAROLYN PORTER and EMILY THURMOND being
baptized at the Harding Uplift program.
- The next week RACHEL ANTHONY was baptized here at Waterview.
- The following Saturday, MADELINE SMITH, was baptized by her
father.
- The pace picked up when KEITH KEISTER was baptized just
before the start of last Sunday morning’s worship.
- Three new Taiwanese Bible studies were set up at the close
of a Taiwanese dinner which had 75 in attendance. From that
same effort, SHARON CHEN was baptized into Christ just before
the start of Sunday night worship, after a two year study with
Laura Balcom.
- In addition to all that, two other Bible studies were set up
in the Waterview foyer last Sunday.
And how does all this happen? Do these kinds of results just
magically appear? Obviously not.
The sowing and cultivating has been going on for a long time
prior to these two weeks by people such as:
- Parents who have
brought their children to Bible school and taught them at
home.
- Grandparents who
have stood by ready to help out.
- The whole non-member
class on Sunday morning has been studying and praying for
one of their number who completed his obedience to Christ.
- A whole task force working with Taiwanese has labored
diligently along with one-to-one teachers to bring in the
harvest.
Don’t you just love harvest time? If you do, how about
helping out with sowing and cultivating?
